Health & Fitness (i.e., Wellness Coaching)

Health and fitness goals are not just for New Year's resolutions! We all want to feel better, look better, or have more energy at some point in our lives. Wellness coaching is a sure-fire way to help you get what you want.

Why not now?

You might relate to one of the following scenarios and agree that now is the time to do something about it.
Fitness coaching with Sara Hauber
Health and wellness coaching can get you one giant leap closer to feeling amazing!
  • Are you fed up with feeling ill at ease in your body, but you're not sure what's a safe and effective way to start incorporating movement into your life?
  • Do you miss the energy you had as a 20 year old and want to get at least some of it back at your current age, while using only natural methods rather than stimulants or medications?
  • Do you finally want to start prioritizing your own fitness and health due to some major event (such as a death of a loved one, a medical diagnosis, or an inspiring success of a friend or celebrity)?
  • Are you experiencing more stress or anxiety than you'd like, and you know exercise can help, but you're just not sure how to make it work for you and fit with your already busy lifestyle?

The main goals of wellness coaching are typically to create wellness without adding stress, attain the body you love, and get the energy you want for yourself and your loved ones.

The focus is on getting you what you want so you wake up every morning thinking, "I feel amazing!!"

Example of a Wellness Coaching Client

As with our lifestyle coaching client and relationship coaching client, I've created a wellness coaching client so you can see what such coaching looks like in action.
Elaine, 37, married with two teenagers at home.
Picture
Elaine wants more for herself. You can, too.
Elaine comes to me because she has been putting her own health and wellbeing behind that of her kids' for 15 years. Now that the kids are virtually independent, able to drive themselves where they need to go, Elaine finally feels the time is right to get fit and feel better in her body.

During our first session together, Elaine gets rather emotional when she talks about doing something for herself after many years of sacrifice for others.
As I question her, moving through the first 3 steps in the Coaching Cycle, Elaine hits on something important. I can hear the deep desire in her voice as she says, "I just want to love and admire my own body again, like I did when I was 21, before I had my kids"

That emotion gives me confidence that Elaine will reach her goals, whatever they ultimately turn out to be.

When motivation is personal and emotional, rather than external and logical, it means the goal is real for the client, and not someone else's goal falsely adopted by the client.

Thus, I know Elaine's intentions are real. She's not here because her husband picks on her to lose weight or get a flat belly. She's here because she feels a deep pull to love her body more than she does. And that's a goal we can definitely work with! (If she herself had wanted to lose weight or get a flat belly, we could work with that too. It's all about what the client personally desires more than anything else.)

Once we know the feeling she wants to feel (love and admiration for her body), I get to work asking the right questions to help Elaine arrive at a good first strategy for achieving that goal. It takes us several minutes to get to a good, clear SMART goal that Elaine insists is realistic for her first week of goal setting.

We set clear and measurable parameters for the work she's agreed to accomplish between the end of our first session and the beginning of our following session the next week, always taking into account the reality of her daily schedule and family duties.

Elaine leaves the session feeling elated.

She finally has a plan! And someone to help her reach a goal that means more to her than anything else right now.

In our second session, we talk about how the first week was.
  • Did she meet her SMART goal?
  • If yes, how did she celebrate that success?
  • And what would she feel comfortable attempting next?
  • What special circumstances does her life present this week?
  • What situations will present challenges to her goals?
  • How can she work around them and succeed in spite of difficulties in her environment?

If Elaine was not able to meet her first week's goal, what stood in the way?

We cycle through Steps 1 through 6 until we come up with a new approach that Elaine feels has an excellent chance of succeeding.

She understands that if a goal is not met, she did not fail. Instead, the goal simply was not correct for the situation.

And so we proceed: Setting SMART goals, celebrating successes, strategizing and implementing and solving problems that come up along the path to ultimate goal achievement.

Doesn't that sound amazing?
